about: profile / cv

"jill bliss uses everyday items such as ball-point pens, fabric scraps, paper cuttings, and basic thread to make objects that are unique - stationery, household items, office supplies, and artwork. her deceptively simple, nature-inspired style stems from her growing up in a do-it-yourself household surrounded by nature in northern california, and then going to art school. since 2001 jill has been selling her work directly to fans online or via indie boutiques around the world, along the way becoming an indie-business icon. transcending studio art, graphic design or craft culture, her name has become a lo-fi lifestyle brand - a grass-roots counterpart to martha stewart or ralph lauren."

art + craft + design
well, i don't know about being a lo-fi martha stewart, but it sounds impressive doesn't it? um, thanks martin! i've been running my little art and design studio in various forms and locations since 2001. although i was born and raised in northern california, like so many other californians i now call portland, oregon home. i design and make art and useful items by myself, or in collaboration with other like-minded individuals and small businesses. i seek out others who, like me, have a natural affinity for reused or recycled materials.
i adore meticulous lines and attention to natural details, which probably comes from my farmlife childhood and all those hours romping around the orchards and fields closely inspecting the plants and animals around me on a daily basis. i also love sparse-yet-dense color and design, which probably stems from my urban adulthood spent in new york, at parsons school of design, and san francisco, at california college of the arts. in ten years between the two coasts i picked up three distinct academic and professional backgrounds that i now use on a daily basis in my studio: fashion design, illustration and design theory.
the underlaying hope in everything that i do is to inspire others, and to encourage a more thoughtful art and design industry that focuses on local economies, fair practices, reusable or sustainable materials, and less consumption tied to ever-changing trends.
currently a one-person operation, i truly appreciate your support!
